Job Title: Ceph Consultant

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Position Summary:

A leading research-focused organization is seeking a Senior Storage Engineer to assist in the implementation and operation of an on-premise Ceph storage cluster. This role involves configuring services such as CephFS and RADOS Gateway, addressing performance concerns, and supporting future infrastructure scaling to expand current storage capabilities.

Principal Duties:

• Support the configuration and deployment of CephFS for Linux environments.

• Monitor the Ceph cluster for performance and reliability issues across the file system, clients, and underlying hardware.

• Assist with integrating the Ceph cluster into the existing backup infrastructure.

• Provide guidance on integrating Ceph with HPC compute environments running Linux.

• Develop and maintain internal and external documentation for both administrators and end users.

• Work directly with researchers to understand their needs, optimize workflows, and fine-tune system performance.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with Ceph and CephFS.

• Strong background in Linux system administration and performance monitoring.

• Excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.

• Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (OSI model, DNS, firewalls, proxies, load balancing); familiarity with advanced networking (BGP, VXLAN, Cisco, ARISTA, SONiC) is a plus.

• Experience with one or more programming languages: C, C++, Golang, Rust.

• Exposure to Kubernetes and CSI plugin integration.

• Familiarity with monitoring stacks such as PrometheGrafana.
