What’s the job involve?

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Australia Post you will be joining our Product Engineering team. The Product Engineering business unit is split out into various teams that service different products that create and manage compelling digital experiences for our customers. We are customer focused, iterative and adaptive.

You’ll be part of a team of digital professionals working collaboratively to explore new delivery methods, tools and techniques to build and maintain online and mobile products and services used every day by our customers. You undertake development activities that are required to deliver IT solutions that meet the business needs. You will need to estimate and carry out system development work to time, budget and quality targets and in accordance with appropriate standards.

You will be expected to be a thought leader inspiring change and a DevOps culture within Australia Post. The Senior DevOps Engineer will consult on the automation, security, scalability and operational readiness of cloud based solutions.

• Support delivery teams with new and innovative solutions

• Implement, maintain and evolve technologies and capabilities that make up the application platform used for Australia Post's solutions

• Support, maintain and enhance the development tools used by delivery teams

• Mentor delivery teams with understanding and using the development tools and application platform

• Maintain the security and compliance of the development tools and application platform.

• Subject matter expert on application platform automation, security, scalability and operational readiness

• Lead changes to application and infrastructure architectural designs and patterns

• Actively lead planning and prioritisation of team objectives

What we’re looking for:

Required:

• Strong knowledge of DevOps, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration, "Infrastructure as code", and related practices and ideas
• Proven experience of working in Agile environment and methodologies
• Ability to work productively and collaboratively within a cross-functional or cross-skilled team
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with delivery and operational teams to deliver cohesive customer-focused outcomes
• Ability to engage and influence others on architectural, process and operational improvement
• Actively encourage and assist with fostering a strong DevOps culture within the organisation
• Assist the organisation's ability to adapt and scale in a sustainable manner
• Evaluate, compare and prioritise competing requests, requirements and interests
• Experience delivering applications within a commercial environment with significant operational, performance, security and availability requirements
• Strong Experience with cloud application, architectural and infrastructure patterns
• Strong Experience implementing “infrastructure as code” with Cloudformation, Terraform or CDK
• Strong experience with continuous integration and relevant tools such as GitLab, Jenkins or similar
• Proven experience in administration of Kubernetes based environments (e.g. EKS, AKS etc) and building containarised and serverless microservice solutions
• Strong Experience with writing and maintaining code in Python, Ruby, Golang or similar languages and interacting with APIs
• Strong experience in Bash scripting
• Strong experience with administering and troubleshooting Linux such as Redhat, CentOS or similar
• Strong experience in distributed version control such as Git inclusive of branching, merging and releasing strategies
• Proven experience with AWS (or other Public Cloud) and knowledge of the breadth of services and their application
• Experience with monitoring and centralised logging tools and technologies
• Experience of mentoring peers

Desirable

• Experience with OOP design practices
• Experience with web application security and cloud security
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible.
• Experience working with and supporting high traffic/transaction web applications
• Experience with ISM, IRAP, PCI-DSS
• Degree qualification in IT, software engineering or related field is desirable
• AWS certification is desirable
